Shopping.com Hits WallStreet With Flying Colors
IPO Priced at $18, Shopping.com opens at $28 and ran as high as $35.62 within 2 days. Like all high flyers, irrational exuberant stocks must come back down to earth. As of Friday's closing bell, SHOP (stock symbol for Shopping.com) traded at $26.97. Is it a good investment? I'm not convinced because 43% of their revenues come from Google and this contract ends in 2006. Google doesn't have its own shopping comparison engine, Froogle. One thing for sure, Shopping.com is taking a serious bite into Amazon.com's market. Then again, it's getting be a crowded market with the likes of pricescan.com, nextag.com, bizrate.com, MSN Shopping, mySimon, Pricegrabber.com etc... heck, there are even bargain websites such as www.hot-deals.org and www.bensbargains.net. Would I invest? Nope.
